The 3 Keystones of

Fluid Acrobatics:

1. Technical Training
2. Movement Research
3. Creation & Creative Practice

About the Practice

Core Idea

The extraction of the underlaying core principles and physics of acrobatic movements are at the core of the classes content.
The attempt to break down very complex movements into fundamental and accessible principles lead Lawrence to develop a movement vocabulary that is closely related to dance and contemporary floorwork.

Class Content

We are working on elaborating our physical capabilties and on adjusting our bodies and fine motor skills by diving into different topics such as weight distribution, working with momentum & gravity, risk evaluation, falling and rolling or inversions.
Throughout the course we develop a number of phrases as well as an expandable vocabulary that is centered around techniques deriving from different disciplines such as soft acrobatics, martial arts tricking and contemporary dance.

By integrating movement improvisation and playful exercises into our practice our goal is that participants explore new possibilites and get inspired by the endless pathways our kinetic bodies can pursue.
With guided creative exercises we want to promote individuality as well as the inherent artistry each student brings to the course.

By working with opposing movement qualities like strength & control VS. softness & fluidity we want to approach and explore the whole spectrum of movement and foster a

fluid, receptive and responsive body.

The Fluid Acrobatics Programmes aim to:

1. Enhance general movement intelligence
2. Provide an embodied understanding of floor based acrobatics
3. Foster connection & inspire creative processes

Branching Paths

Movement Class:

1. Mobility & Conditioning
2. Floor Fundamentals
3. Creative Movement Research

The concept of "Branching Paths" as used in different fields of art involves the integration of the visitors / the players agency, allowing the audience to explore different narratives and to influence the outcome.
For example: "choose your own adventure" themed books in literature, or video games designs where player choices lead to different narratives and endings.

Branching Paths Movement Class is an open level movement workshop format.

The practice includes working on fundamental movement principles including technical training, mobility and coordinative exercises as well as creative and explorative movement research.

Next to building and fostering a solid foundation the integration of the Branching Paths Concept is designed to leverage the participants personal agency and to inspire students to craft their own physical narratives.

Class Overview:

Mobility/Conditioning:

-drills, exercises and training routines to develop a strong but soft, a fluid body

These exercises will help us to maintain a solid foundation that is needed to further explore technical moves as well as to build the confidence for creative research

Floor Fundamentals:

-learn essential floor based movements
-find smooth transitions between standing and grounded movements
-train the fundamentals of falling, rolling, sliding and how to use the floor as a supportive partner while emphasizing safety, control, and fluidity

This segment will help you find ease and grace when navigating the floor as well as to find confidence to move away from the floor (inversions and dynamic movements)

Creative Movement Research:

- research on entrances and exits of moves deriving from various movement styles, such as martial arts, contemporary dance or soft acrobatics.
- playfully dive into an open but guided movement research on the search for flow and for new pathways and for expression
-Reflect on your movement patterns, on how they change and evolve and gain insights into how your choices shape your practice
-create your own flows and sequences within a clear predefined framework and allow your artistic intuition to guide the process
