Hi.
My name is Lawrence Ritchie and I am a viennese full time mover and creative. I am working as a movement educator as well as in the fields of theatre, dance and visual arts.

I have been teaching movement classes of different styles nationally and internationally for more than 15 years now.

Why do I teach?

About 20 years ago, I was first introduced to the world of freestyle acrobatics by just a handful of so-called trickers who welcomed me into their scene with open arms.
It’s only with time that I’ve come to truly appreciate how much a supportive, like-minded community can fuel personal growth. Through shared experiences, honest conversations, and the inspiration that comes from simply being seen.
So from my personal experience, I deeply believe in the many positive effects that a consistent and shared movement practice can bring, not just to physical and mental well-being, but also to our sense of identity, community and belonging.

Education/Experience

At age 12, Lawrence began training in Chinese Wushu under Chen Shi Hong, a former training partner of Jet Li, and won numerous titles at the Austrian Wushu Championships in 2007 and 2008.

From 2006 to 2014, he pursued a career in Martial Arts Tricking and represented Austria at gatherings and battles across Europe. He is the first Austrian athlete to land combinations such as Cartwheel-Fulltwist-S/T-Double Cork, establishing himself in both the Austrian and international scene.

After an injury-related break from extreme movement forms, Lawrence increasingly shifted his focus toward artistic and conceptual work. He graduated at a multimedia school (Höhere Graphische Bundes-Lehr- und Versuchsanstalt), specializing in graphic design, audiovisual art, exhibition, and spatial design.

He then graduated from the Friedl Kubelka School for Independent Film, specializing in experimental film. In addition, he completed an intensive sound design course with Richard Ulmer and further developed his practice in music composition and production.

From 2020 to 2023, he trained in contemporary dance at Movement Lab Vienna. His close collaboration with the institutes founder, Matan Levkowich, led to a redefinition of his choreographic and pedagogical approach. In 2022, he developed Fluid Acrobatics, a training and research practice based around floorwork and soft acrobatics that combines fundamental acrobatic principles with contemporary movement research.

Since 2022, Lawrence has been an active performer with the theater company Schall und Rauch Agency (theater for young audiences), contributing to music composition and choreographic work across multiple productions.

Also in 2022, he founded the Arashi Collective, where he curates international workshops, movement and dance programs, local collaborations, and community-oriented events. He is also responsible for its visual design, branding development, and artistic direction. In 2026, he opened the Arashi Movement Center in Vienna, an interdisciplinary movement space in the 15th district.
